Advice for Integration

Only the passionate survive in this discourse, to be accepted and and to excel in the discourse, you have to value Mother Nature.  You have to respect Mother Nature.  You have to make sacrifices for the planet and the environment as well.

Everyone who works in this community of practice values the fact that the energy efficiency benefits the planet by driving up demand for environmental friendly products and systems.  We also value the concept of an idea turning into a reality, and The members of the Discourse take their relationship with their clients very seriously, this characteristic really helped integration into this Discourse go smoothly. 

Sustainability

The idea of sustainability has been around for hundreds of years, and it has always been important for societies to respect mother nature in order to survive.  George Washington Carver was born in 1864 and is known as the father of sustainability, he taught the importance of sustainable practices that wouldn’t deplete the soil while farming, called subsistence farming.  But before today’s time, no society has the influence and power it now has.  Woodrow Clark, a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize and author of Sustainable Communities, has helped spread the word about “the power nations have [in today’s time in regards] to sustainability”.  The more power and land a country has, the more responsible they must be to protect that land.

Through the new trend of sustainability, steps are being taken by members of the discourse to bring a greener society into view.  These steps are being taken by the increased use of solar, wind, landfill gas to energy and being smarter technologically in order to be more efficient.  This field has perfected the idea of ‘green’ systems conserving energy and saving big money over time.  This means cutting your pollution and carbon footprint, the less carbon you put out, the closer you get to your goal, sustainability.

Fossil fuels are outdated and will be replaced because of this current trend in this discourse.  Richard Stein, author of The Energy Problems has pointed out that “energy sources are becoming scarcer and the climate is deteriorating, [we need to ask ourselves] what are the possibilities” (3) other than fossil fuels?  Stein has taken pride seeing the field undergoing changes and moving in a positive direction, away from fossil fuels.  Due to the recent trend of sustainability, Stein has seen an increase in the motivation and curiosity of people in the alternative energy market that in effect leads to a society closer to becoming completely sustainable.  Our society is closer to this goal because these new energies are cleaner for our environment, fossil fuels produce an excess amount of carbon dioxide and other toxic pollutants.

The idea of sustainability has energized the discourse as a whole and it is the reason why growth in the discourse has been evident.

Believing

Besides the money that is attained by working in the discourse, there needs to be a bigger reason for doing a job in the discourse.  It takes a lot of faith to enter a field with the odds stacked against you, a strong belief helps you overcome the negative stigma of added expense and the expectation to create new technologies so quickly.  The energy systems that are sold save a lot of energy, this means less pollution being emitted, and cleaner air for everyone who lives on this planet.  We are partly responsible for this achievement, it gives us empowering reason to come to work.

Jobs

This community is broad, there are many jobs within this feild.  You could be an environmental engineer, a politician, lobbyist, sales person or anything else that relates to cleaner energy systems being developed or delivered.  Some important advice, get a college degree, the added knowledge and experience will make integration into the community a lot easier.  Being interdisciplinary is very helpful in this discourse, for example, when selling a company a new energy system, you should be knowledgeable about new EPA rules that might convince the company to adopt the new, better and cleaner system sooner rather than later.  Your knowledge about science and government rules (subsidies) are a necessity.  A negative stigma is attached to any of the environmental fields and must be overcome through strong customer relations and a great passion to help better the earth.

Siemens Technologies

A company well known for there work in this discourse is Siemens Technologies.  The company is known for its expertise with alternative fuels and efficient energy systems.  Even though the company and their employees passion is to better the environment, they still need to attain a profit at the end of the day.  An annual shareholder report from the company does not mention anything about saving the earth, it is strictly economics based.

Trends within the Discourse

Every discourse community changes, currently, the trend that is changing environmental energy is the idea of sustainability.  Overall this is a positive trend that is strengthening the feilds power and influence.  This idea helps promote cleaner energy sources, less pollution, less waste and keeping future generations in mind through the process.  This trend was initially brought on with the global warming debate, and over time has evolved to something less argumentative but extremely important.

Alternative Energy

Alternative/renewable energies are the future of American energy. Fossil fuels are finite, expensive and dirty for this planet. Time will introduce a new path away from big oil, it could be wind energy, solar energy, hydroelectric power, waste to power, biofuels, a combination or another source that will experience a break through. With this blog, I will dive deeper into cleaner ways to get energy, and go over in more detail what the discourse of environmental energy is like.
